The use of fire was banned inside the prison, for simple security reasons, although marking by fire was also practiced in Venice but in public.
Inside the prison only white tortures were allowed, i.e. the pillory and the rope. In the second case, the victim had his wrists tied behind his back and tied to his wrists and elbows; with another rope that ran through a hook on the ceiling, the victim was lifted from behind in a very painful position for bones and muscles, but also for lung breathing which became more and more difficult creating a strong sensation of suffocation. As is evident, the room was not equipped with closed doors because the intent was to make the prisoners hear the sufferings of the tortured poor.
