Female prisoners were held in a separate cell, equipped with a window. This was the only difference from male cells and did not mean better conditions.
Here, large sections of the original walls remain visible, with holes used to secure chains. Some anchors appear not only at ankle height, but also higher, at wrist level.
This was because the cell was also used for women accused of witchcraft. According to beliefs of the time, they were feared capable of flying out through the window and were therefore chained at both ankles and wrists.
