Only four hundred meters divide St. Mark Square from this other little jewel of the lagoon: the island of San Giorgio Maggiore with the homonymous and imposing basilica designed by the architect Andrea Palladio in 1565 contains important works of art, such as Tintoretto’s paintings.

Today the ancient Benedictine buildings are managed by the Cini Foundation, which is responsible for the restoration and redevelopment of the space hosting cultural events and conferences.
