Marco Polo, born in Venice in 1254, was an explorer and merchant famous for his extraordinary journey to the East in the 13th century along the Silk Road. Marco traversed unknown lands, bringing with him eastern riches and astonishing stories. His detailed descriptions of oriental wonders, such as silk and spices, inspired future generations of explorers. This year marks the 700th anniversary of his death and the Venice Carnival 2024 celebrates one of its greatest travellers, whose adventure fully embodies the spirit of the city of Venice: the curiosity, the desire for knowledge and the resourcefulness of Venetian merchants. The Carnival thus becomes a unique opportunity to experience Marco Polo’s story and discover the timeless charm of Venice.
