Old typical Venetian festival, now a historical reenactment, which includes the blessing of couples and the drawing of 12 of the most beautiful girls from poor families in the city; these girls were entrusted to noble families who had the task of giving them clothes and jewels to make them marry. The girls were paraded along the Grand Canal for days, to show them to the public who considered them a good omen.
Starting from Saturday, February 22nd, the selected girls will participate in various events of the official Carnival program. A highlight will be the traditional water parade aboard gondolas, in collaboration with the Gondoliers Association, along the Grand Canal. The final selection will take place on Monday, March 3rd, in the Apollinee Rooms of the La Fenice Theatre, with the election of the Maria of Carnival 2025. The official proclamation will be made on Fat Tuesday, March 4th, in Piazza San Marco.
