Just after the first harbor mouth, we skirt along the island of Ca’ Roman, an extraordinary natural reserve with unique wildlife.

In front of the first harbor mouth, you can see one of the five octagons present in the lagoon: they are military posts built by the Serenissima Republic in case of invasion by enemy ships. These forts have been used until the end of the Second World War.

Proceeding after the island of Ca’ Roman, the first coastline begins Pellestrina. The coastline, also called “litorale” is a strip of sandy land that separates the lagoon from the Adriatic Sea.

On the first litorale there are three villages: Pellestrina, Porto Secco, and San Pietro in Volta.
