Most of the walls are still visible (because they are not covered with plaster) and therefore the holes where the chains were fixed are clearly visible. The fact that the holes are visible not only at the height of the ankles but also higher is due to the fact that the cell in question was the one reserved for prisoners accused of witchcraft – the widespread belief that a witch can fly and therefore escape from the window led to the decision to chain the poor unfortunates also to their wrists.
