A few meters from the Church of Santa Maria del Giglio, overlooking the Rio della Fenice, stands Palazzo Marin. Located between Santa Maria del Giglio and Teatro La Fenice, Palazzo Marin has a dual identity: its 16th-century origins and the 18th-century frescoes in the Tiepolo style that characterize it. According to tradition, it was the residence of the famous Countess Isabella Teotochi of Corfu during her early years in Venice. A highly cultured, witty, and charming woman, she was loved by Vivant Denon (the “creator” of the Louvre Museum), poets Ippolito Pindemonte and Ugo Foscolo, and was a close friend of Canova, who dedicated to her the famous biography of his works. Isabella Teotochi was known as “the Venetian Madame de StaĆ«l.” Today, the Serafini family, owners of Palazzo Marin, feel a strong need to protect this precious place and its historical function: promoting culture in all its forms and the joy of cultural exchange. The Palazzo is available for private and public events: it hosts, upon request, meetings with artists and musicians, book presentations, jazz and classical music concerts, training courses, fashion shows, small weddings, gala dinners, and fundraising events. The Palazzo, rich in frescoes, stuccoes, tapestries, and valuable furnishings, features works by Giovanni Scajario (1726-1792) and Gaetano Zompini (1700-1778).
