The sailing starts from Ponte Isola dell’Unione, which connects the two islands of Chioggia and Sottomarina. In the middle of the bridge you can find two statues by the sculptor Franca Dalcomune, representing the traditional activities of the two islands, namely the fisherman for Chioggia and the farmer for Sottomarina.
Chioggia and Sottomarina are lands of lagoon and sea, located about 25 km as the crow flies from Venice.
Sottomarina is a long strip of land touched on one side by the Adriatic Sea and on the other side by the lagoon. The coastline offers a beautiful beach extending for over 6 km with fine sand, beach clubs, and several tourist attractions. The old and more historical part of the island overlooks the Lagoon of Lusenzo where you will find the characteristic colorful houses, the sea walls called Murazzi, and, narrow streets called Calli leading to moored small boats and fishing boats.
